Cambridge is three old towns and the subdivisions that grew between them, and the repair list is different in each. Galt has the century brick: doors that stick every August, plaster that cracks along the lath, original double-hung windows with rope sashes that no longer hold, and baseboards nobody makes any more. Preston and Hespeler have the post-war bungalows and the mill-era frame houses: hollow doors, drafty aluminum windows, bathroom fans that were never vented properly, and closets built for a smaller wardrobe.
